The Foundation Subjects

Information and Communication Technology is used in all areas of the curriculum to support children’s learning. Appropriate software is used to develop pupils technological communication skills; handling of information and use of web based resources. All children are provided with filtered and supervised internet access. The Market Deeping Community School ICT Policy outlines the importance that we place on ICT at our school.

Market Deeping Community School promote respect and tolerance. Children are introduced to four religious traditions in the course of their time at the school, and great care is taken to ensure that all beliefs are valued. The RE syllabus for each year is as follows:

  • Year 3: Christianity/Religious Buildings
  • Year 4: Hinduism/Buddhism
  • Year 5: Islam/ Judaism
  • Year 6:Sikhism

This is a Lincolnshire agreed syllabus for RE.

In Geography, pupils investigate a variety of people, places and environments during their time at Market Deeping Community School. Children find out how people affect the environment and how they are affected by it. They carry out geographical enquiry inside and outside the classroom. They use geographical skills and resources such as maps; atlases; aerial photographs and ICT to ask and answer geographical questions.

In History, pupils learn about significant people, events and places from both the recent and more distant past. They learn about change and continuity in Britain and in other parts of the world. They look at history in a variety of ways, for example from political, economic, technological and scientific, social, religious, cultural or aesthetic perspectives. They use different sources of information to help them investigate the past.

Art and Design Technology

Pupils develop their creativity and imagination through Art and Design Technology. At Market Deeping Community School, pupils are encouraged to use visual and tactile elements, materials and processes to communicate what they see, feel and think – the work they produce ranges from individual closed detailed observation to large collaborative wall friezes that can be viewed around the school.

Sport and Physical Education

Sporting provision at Market Deeping Community ensures that our children have the chance to participate and excel in a wide range of sports delivered by both teaching staff and professional coaches. As a result, teams from Market Deeping Community regularly compete in local competitions in disciplines such as tag rugby, football, hockey, netball, Rounders and Athletics . Additional sports, such as Dodge ball, speed stacking and Tennis are also offered as lunch time and after school clubs.

From 2013, for a three year period, Schools have been allocated funding known as the 'P.E. and Sports Premium' to improve physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools over the 3 academic years 2013 to 2014, 2014 to 2015 and 2015 to 2016. The spend plan / statement 2013-15 (pdf) below, describes the rationale behind our spending of the premium; amounts allocated under the premium; provision and continous professional development paid for by the premium; intended impact.

The Arts

Performing and visual arts also play a significant part within our curriculum. Drawing upon our rich and varied regional culture we welcome local artisans to help enhance our Art’s curriculum. Furthermore, one only needs to take a walk around the corridors of our school to see the wealth and variety of visual artwork on display, created throughout the course of the school year and during our art focus weeks.

In addition, Market Deeping Community Primary school ensures a vibrant performing arts curriculum. Throughout Key Stage 2 children are offered the chance to attend Choir , recorders, and the joint schools Rock band. Furthermore, children are given a wide variety of opportunities to perform. Each year, the choir visits the Deepings Arts festival to take part in a collaborative concert with other primary schools, as well as performing within the local community. Every term we hold a ‘Musical Showcase’ to share the musical activities that have been happening during the year which includes performances from soloists, ensembles and larger groups. The joint schools rock band is currently in its third year and gives opportunities for KS2 children who already play an instrument, to rehearse and perform as part of a rock band with other pupils from other local schools... Tuition is also available in a number of instruments including keyboard, guitar, drums and vocal training (please note this tuition must be paid for).

All children are also provided with supervised swimming lessons at the Deepings  local swimming pool.

All Market Deeping Community School pupils learn French in Key Stage 2. This enables our pupils to develop communication and literacy skills that lay the foundation for future language learning. As well as developing their linguistic competence, learning another language raises awareness of the multilingual and multicultural world we live in, and encourages tolerance and understanding of others.
