KS2 were fortunate to have a visitor (Chris) come in to work with the five classes. The children were split into 20 random, mixed age groups for the day and they were set the task of building a waterproof den.
The day started in the hall. After an assembly by Chris, each group designed a flag with their group name on. Once that was complete, they began designing their shelter using the TASC wheel to guide them.
After break, the children began constructing the frames of their dens using bamboo sticks and zip ties.
Once lunch was over, each group started to cover their dens using some of the wide range of materials that Chris brought with him. They attached them to their dens using pegs. If they finished in time, they could sit in their dens eating a well deserved biscuit. Would they pass the waterproof test that would follow shortly???
We're pretty sure that the final part of the day was Mr Manders-Jones's favourite (probably the same for the rest of the adults). 3 groups at a time had their dens tested to see if they were waterproof by an adult throwing a bucket of water over them! Majority came out dry...
