Monday – This week we are looking at diary writing and will be using a clip from the movie 'Rio' to inspire our writing. Begin your session today by watching this clip: . Watch the clip a second time and this time can you write a list of feelings both characters (Blue and Linda) might be feeling during the event of the video. You could also consider what they might be thinking and write a few thought bubbles to capture these ideas. Here is a template you could use if you want to. 


Tuesday - Today we are going to think about using different suffixes within our writing. Here is a link to some activities to remind you what suffixes are: 

When you have completed these activities we would like you to have a go at creating a word bank of vocabulary that use the suffixes below. Try to think of words that could link to the clip we watched yesterday; perhaps you could watch it again first!

Year 2’s, can you add these suffixes to words to change them, be careful, the root word might need to change too! See how many you can think of, for example… excitement, happiness, fearful, hopeless, carefully. Here is a template if you'd like one. 







Year 1’s, can you add these suffixes to root words, check your spellings! (they only need to add suffixes where the root word doesn’t change so not words such as ‘biking’ or ‘biked’ as the ‘e’ letter has to drop) Here is a template if you would like one.

See how many you can think of, for example… running, turned, faster, tallest, biggest.






Wednesday – Watch the video clip again and then write a short diary entry in first person describing how you felt during the carnival rescue. You can choose which character to be; Linda (the lady on the float trying to get Blu) or you can write as Blu (the blue macaw) who is trying to save Jewel. The fun part is that you get to choose how your diary ends! Does Linda catch Blu? Does Blu save Jewel? Think about how you felt and what was in your way!


Dear Diary,

What a day! I found Blu but I was dragged into a scary, huge, busy carnival! There were lots of crazy dancers and people dressed up in colourful clothes. How did I get here? All I knew is that I wanted to get to Blu, I was determined!

Thursday: Watch this clip from the 2019 Rio carnival parade: and imagine you are in the crowd! Write a postcard to a friend or family member telling them about the parade and the best things that you saw. Here is a template if you would like one. 


Friday - Today we are going to focus on spelling; have a look through the current book you are reading or take a look at the Key Stage One common exception words list and pick a few words that you need to practise in order to spell them correctly. Practise your chosen words by writing them in lots of different colours, writing them in chalk outside, making flash cards to stick up in your bedroom and any other ways you can think of to help you! There are a few pictures below to give you some ideas! Click here for some spelling practise games you could try too!

Year 1 reading activityRead the post card containing lots of differen variations of the 'ir' sound. Can you spot all the different words that make an 'ir' sound? Create a grid on a piece of paper and write down the different types of 'ir' you can find in the post card. Can you find any other 'ir' 'er' 'or' 'ear' words in books at home that all make the same 'ir' sound? Use this sheet if you'd like to!



Science Year 1

Following last week's learning about comon British flowers, this week we would like to combine science and art to complete some scientific diagrams of British flowers. 

We would like you to choose 3 common flowers, maybe they are growing in your garden or in your local area and take a picture of them. Then use these pictures to help you look very closely at the details on the flowers as you draw diagrams of them. Think about the colours that you use to make you scientific diagrams as realistic as possible, label your flowers with their names.

Science Year 2

This week we are going to continue to look at the life cycle of a dandelion; take a look at this video clip:

As you are watching think about how the dandelion spreads its seeds to other places so that new plants can grow.

Inspired by the Rio movie clip we used this week, for art we would like you to create your own parrot! You could paint, draw or craft your parrot. Here are a few ideas to get you thinking:

Brazil is a very vast country and millions of people live there. Sadly, 16 million Brazilians live in poverty which means they don't have enough money to live comfortably. This week we would like you to find out about two different places in Brazil, Barra Di Tijuca and Rochinha. Below are links to videos about the two places, but you might want to look online with an adult to help you to find out some other facts too. Once you have investigated the locations, can you create a venn diagram that compares them? - Barra di Tijuca – Rochinha

Remember in a venn diagram you label each side with one of the places, the middle section is where we put information that is the same about both places, the information that is uninque to one place goes on their side of the diagram.
