Reception 2018 to 2019

Welcome to the Cubs and Kittens!

The aliens left us some of their favourite foods that they managed to find in Tesco! We tasted pomegranates, papayas, persimmon fruit and lychees. We also looked closely at them using magnifying glasses and a special tablet microscope.

We created our own aliens using paint and collage materials. We loved how each alien was completely different.

Spring Term - Adventures in Space!

Or learning this term centres around space. We will be learning about aliens and their underpants, taking a journey to space with a bear in a cardboard box and meeting Bob, the man on the moon!

In literacy we we will be doing lots of descriptive writing, as well as writing postcards and instructions. We will be using the phonics we have been learning to write sentences and labels. We are working really hard on using cursive writing.

In maths this term, we will be ensuring we are counting carefully and recognising and solving problems using numbers to 20. We will be adding and subtracting and learning number facts such as doubles and number bonds to 10. We will also look at 2D and 3D shapes.

Keep your our eye on the website for some of the exciting activities we have got coming up.

Fabulous Phonics

We have now covered all of the Phase 2 phonemes and are beginning on phase 3. If you would like to practise these more at home or play some fun games to help you with your learning click on the links below.

Please join us for a Christmas sing-song and to watch our Nativity Play. Further details about tickets will be available soon. The play will be performed in the new classroom.

Making Dinosaur Nests

This week we used salt dough to create our own dinosaur nests. We chose materials that would be soft, warm and fluffy and that would protect the dinosaur eggs from strong winds.

Potions and Pumpkins!

To celebrate some of our favourite aspects of autumn, we made potions with Miss Dalby and matched and ordered numbers on pumpkins with Mrs Stoneer. Our potions included all sorts of colours, smells and textures and we were able to think very creatively about what our potions would be able to do!

Autumn Term 2

This term we will be focusing upon Autumn, Dinosaurs and Christmas.

Crime Scene!

On September 24th, we walked into a crime scene! Something very strange had gone on over the weekend. We walked around and found all sorts of evidence, slippers, reading glasses, a nightie, fur and even false teeth! We looked closely at the evidence and noted down what we found. We think we worked out what happened - an incident between a big, bad wolf and a grandma. What do you think happened?

Baby Bear’s Birthday

Friday 21st September was Baby Bear’s birthday! We celebrated by making party hats, doing some fabulous dancing, playing games and eating popcorn! We had a super afternoon. Happy birthday Baby Bear!

Reading Buddies

We love reading with our Year 6 Reading Buddies! The come and visit every Thursday afternoon to share stories with us. They also look out for us on the playground and help us around school. They make sure they are excellent role models for behaviour and help us to be the best we can!

Grandparents' Reading Afternoon

We enjoyed welcoming our grandparents to school this afternoon! Stories and poems were shared and enjoyed by all.

Who’s Been Eating My Porridge?

This afternoon, the reception children made some porridge but it was too hot. We decided to go for a walk until it had cooled down. While we were out, we had an unwelcome visitor, who ate all of our porridge and broke one of our chairs! We think we know who it you?
