Reception 2020 New Starters Information

Welcome Reception September 2020

We would like to welcome all our new families who are joining Market Deeping Community Primary School and thank those who may already have brothers and sisters attending school, for continuing their journey with us.

We are very much looking forward to meeting your children and working in partnership with you to ensure that all the children have a happy and successful education. Due to the nature of the circumstances that we find ourselves in at this current time, induction for our new children may have to look very different this year.  However, we will do our best to make your child's transition into school a happy one. We aim to give you as much information as we possibly can. Please do not hesitate to talk to us if you have any further questions.

Seesaw

Seesaw is a simple way for teachers and children to record and share what's happening in the classroom. Seesaw gives pupils a place to document their learning, be creative and learn how to use technology. Each student gets their own journal and will add things to it, like photos, videos, drawings, or notes. When there are new Seesaw posts, families can be notified via app notification, email or SMS. Parents are only notified about their own child’s work, and all data is safe and secure. You are able to add  photos of learning and activities that they have done at home and send messages.

Frequently Asked Questions

These are concerns we find parents frequently share with us. We have prepared answers for these for actions we normally put into place. We are currently waiting for government guidelines for September and therefore we may not be able to put all of our normal practice into place.

My child is the only one from their previous preschool/ nursery. Will they make any friends?

Teachers will allow the children to free flow/ explore between the two classrooms and outdoor area. This will enable the staff to recognise new interests and support the forming of friendships during play and adult led situations.

How will it be decided which Class they will be in?

We work closely with the child’s previous setting to discuss friendships and learning needs. As well as considering the friendships the children already.

My child is a fussy eater, they won’t eat the lunch provided.

There are options of a main meal/ vegetarian option jacket potato or sandwich.

You can pick and choose which meals your child has or when they are packed lunch. The children will be offered a piece of free fruit every day and free milk is available for 4 year olds. If your child is 5 and they would like milk, you need to pay for it through the milk company; you will receive more information about this. The children are not forced to eat their lunch or fruit but are encouraged to eat as much as possible by lunchtime supervisors. If they are not eating the school meals a member of staff will inform you at the end of the day.

I don’t think they are ready for school.

Every child will have challenges throughout school but it is important they are encouraged to try their best and not give up. They will learn at their own pace and will get the support they need along the way. The structural learning is gradually introduced into their daily routine as the week’s progress. Adult led learning is kept as active and as fun as possible.

My child won’t be able to cope with the long days.

All children have the option to be full time or we can set up a transition plan with you where we gradually introduce full time days and review the child’s needs. They will all be tired from excitement of something new.

What does my child need for school?

-They will need to bring a school book bag every day; this will have their reading book and reading record.

-A named drinks bottle everyday

-A waterproof coat as we go outside every day and never know what will happen with the weather

-A sunhat if it’s a sunny day and sunscreen applied before school

- P.E kit

- Change of clothes in case of accidents.

My child has special educational needs. How will they be supported?

We will work closely with your child’s previous preschool setting. Our SEN team, along with the Class Teacher, will support working together with you and any outside agencies to put a plan together to meet the needs of your child.

My child is very ready for school. How will their learning needs be met?

As well as working together with you during the settling in period we will be making observations about children’s learning needs which will ensure your child will make good progress. Adult led learning opportunities will be introduced at the appropriate level for your child.
